I WAS WATCHING CBS BIG BROTHER AND ONE OF THE CONTESTANTS WAS BRAGGING ABOUT SPOTLIGHTING. THAT IS THE PRACTICE OF RANDOMLY SHINING A LIGHT AND SHOOTING ANY PAIR OF EYES LOOKING BACK AT YOU. THE FOLLOWING NIGHT THE HOST JULIE CHEN ASKED HIM IF HE WERE NOT A HOUSEGUEST WHAT WOULD HE RATHER BE DOING. HE SAID A SECOND TIME IN TWO DAYS THAT HE WISHED HE COULD BE "SPOTLIGHTING" AND SHE DESCRIBED WHAT IT WAS AND THEY ALL STARTED LAUGHING. THIS SETS A VERY BAD PRECEDENT. SHE WAS CONDONING THIS ILLEGAL BEHAVIOR BY AIRING IT AND THEN TREATING IT LIKE FUN , CAREFREE ACTIVITY AND NOT THE HORRIBLY CRUEL, ILLEGAL PRACTICE THAT IT IS. YOU NEED TO TARGET JULIE CHEN FOR AIRING THIS AND LAUGHING ABOUT THE PRACTICE OF RANDOMLY KILLING ANYTHING THAT MOVES JUST BECAUSE YOU ARE BORED. I AM GUESSING THAT IT PUT THE IDEA INTO MANY HEADS AND MANY INNOCENT ANIMALS HAVE PROBABLY LOST THEIR LIVES AS A RESULT. MAKE AN EXAMPLE OF HER AND DEMAND SHE MENTION IT ON THE SHOW THAT NOT ONLY IS IT ILLEGAL BUT IT IS NOT A FUN ACTIVITY THAT THEY CONDONE. PLEASE MAKE A FUSS OVER THIS AND TELL THEM THAT THEIR "HOUSEGUEST" IS VIOLATING THE LAW AND THEY ARE COSIGNING THIS ACTIVITY BY MAKING LIGHT OF IT. MYKE ONDEK NASHVILLE, TN MAKE HER APOLOGISE ON AIR. MAKE HIM VOW TO STOP THIS PRACTICE.
Dear Myke,
Thank you for contacting PETA about the episode of “Big Brother” that you recently watched on CBS. We share your concern, and this information has been forwarded to the appropriate department for review.
Violence toward animals—even when staged or merely referenced in movies and television —makes light of a very serious issue, and public perception about the treatment of animals is often strongly influenced by images in the media. Our office receives letters and phone calls every day about animals who have been shot, set on fire, sexually assaulted, hanged, and stabbed by cruel individuals, many of whom are imitating something they saw in a movie or on television.
There is no excuse for promoting the mistreatment of animals for the sake of entertainment and ratings. If you see a film, television show, or commercial that you feel is disrespectful toward animals or promotes cruelty to animals, we encourage you to voice your concerns by contacting the network’s programming director or the CEO of the movie’s production company. Letters from individuals like you have been the deciding factor in most of our victories for animals. Although networks expect to hear from animal rights organizations like PETA, hearing from individual viewers like you sends a clear message that their choices of programming that depict cruelty to animals will not be tolerated by the public.
Please write to CBS and explain that animal cruelty should not be featured in its programs.

Lane explains the practice of ‘spotlighting,’ which involves ten people, ten guns, and a case of beer. They’d shine the spotlight into trees, and shoot if they saw eyes. Lane says he wants to pimp his gun out like something in 007.
